Update

Started the 1st session last Monday with a coaching buddy, focusing on technique while the weather is fine and the space is free. 1st impressions.... a small team for thier age, but should grow 2/3 " during the summer months, some with ability and some good 1st touches.
This week, did the session on my own, revisiting the short/long passing techniques in two 15min practices, but they struggled to link 2 passes together without being closed down by defenders !!! +*&%$£".... really frustrating… Continue

Weekly coaching schedule

I will be starting coaching an U14's boys team summer evenings with another Level 2 coaching friend starting with improving technique on passing, ball control using the free facilities in the park and the mild weather.

Break

Well, I've decided to have a break from coaching for a while, I managed to stick with this team for 2 seasons and recruited another Level 2 coach who wanted to get involved in this age group as he was taking his Level 3, but we got fed up with the poor discipline from the U15's and both concluded we weren't there to to teach young men how to behave.
I've been involved in organising and running football teams for 8 yrs and coaching for 5, so a rest might help me re-focus on why I love the game an… Continue

U14's progress

With 6 games left, I've had some good feedback and comments on the teams conduct and progress so far from a variety of sources including parents, an experienced referee and various opposition coaches, this is very rewarding for me personally as it indicates I have managed to improve the boys general positional awareness, techniques and skills over this season. We have a lot of work to do especially progressing in the 4-4-2 system by getting to tuck wide midfielders inside and overloading the mid… Continue

What are some drills you work on for ball control and passing? I am going to try and volunteer as an assistant coach this summer for the high school boys C team (freshman or 14 and 15 year olds). One thing American's can always work on is ball control, first touch on the ball and passing.

About the most footy I'm involved in right now is catching my nephews games! Now that the EPL is over I don't know what I'm gonna do! I guess I'll have to make due with the MLS! How about yourself? Doing any coaching?

I just noticed that Paul Scholes is on your list of favorite players. I love that crazy red head! What's your thoughts on the CL final coming up and the possible relegation of Newcastle?

The one thing I am envious about is that you guys have a vast amount of football knowledge and kid's who have grown up in a footballing influenced environment from day one. Unfortunately, my bro doesn't have that advantage but he still manages okay. I wish my brother could take his team to England for touring and training. I reckon that would be pretty expensive. I know my brother could benefit from it too. He's always looking for new coaching and training strategies for his team or at least a consistent system of play that will lead to continual player development, growth and success for each new season.

If you would have told me that all 4 top premier teams would go scoreless this weekend I would never have believed you. Kudos to Man. City for getting the job done today. They are coming on strong. FYI, I added a bunch of Groups recently on FFC for all the members. I also added one for Man City Supporter's if you are interested. If so just go to the Groups feature and check it out for yourself. Cheers Paul.
